The ensemble
A story of music and connection.
Founded by Fernando Fontes in Rio de Janeiro, Cartola de Noel has devoted 17 years to samba, choro and Brazilian music, performing in theatres, cultural events and cities across Brazil. In 2018, the ensemble performed in Asunción, Paraguay.
The ensemble’s return in 2026 opens a new chapter, preserving the project’s identity with its current line-up of seven professional musicians.
IN MEMORY
Vicente Ladeira
Fernando Fontes’s father, Vicente was a pillar of Cartola de Noel. His encouragement, presence and dedication to promoting the ensemble and building cultural connections remain part of its history. Continuing the project also honours his memory.
